In Violet Light: Track by Track by Gordon Downie

I worked very hard on this record, as did the rest of the guys, toiling in and around what Rick
Groen calls the "collective wisdom of committees." That said, on this album, I tried to honour the inviolate lights of my life.

'Use It Up' (4:16)

"Use it up. Don't save anything for later"
.
... a favourite saying of Raymond Carver's that I love and use on a daily
basis
when confronted with the dilemma of how to proceed in this "art world" we all
live in.
Perhaps it belies/shows a certain supreme confidence, but
to
me
it's a reminder that it's the doing.... the act.... the writing.... the
work.... not the number that matters. Right on, Ray.
